She said during a virtual meeting with members of the Portfolio Committee on Public Accounts in the Free State Legislature, that the provincial government is well within its budget for the fight against Covid-19. 

Brown also said the biggest slice of the money spent was done in Mangaung, as it is the epicentre of the pandemic in the province. 

Essential goods and services – especially to get the provincial health centres ready for the fight against the virus - and providing sanitisers and masks have already cost the Free State government R45m. 

Another R45m in commitments will bring the total spent by government departments to R90m, Brown explained. 

She said some of the cost will be covered by savings brought on by the fact that government officials are not travelling, and there is no catering or large gatherings as part of the measures during the national lockdown.
