Bloem resident challenges city to #BackAStylist | News Article

Since the beginning of lockdown, there have been various creative ideas people have come up with to save a business, help a friend or even just to keep busy.

South Africa has been entertained on social media by different challenges where people challenge each other for a good cause.

Bloemfontein resident Francois Botha’s challenge comes at a time when many in the hair industry are struggling to keep head above water. Botha challenges people to shave off or cut their own hair, dye or style it and to pay their hairdresser for the “labour”, as it’s going to be a while before they can earn an income. People can post videos or photos on Facebook where they’re cutting their hair and adding the hashtag #backastylist, while tagging other people they are challenging, as well as their own personal hair salon.

Botha explained to Bloemfontein Courant that his colleagues were all very excited to take part in this challenge and have been sending him pictures and videos. He said the idea came about when he heard his wife asking her hairdresser how she was doing, and suggested to pay her in advance for her next haircut to help ease this difficult time. That is how the challenge was born.

Botha further said that they plan to make this big, and he hopes that the rest of the City of Roses and even the province as a whole could join the challenge.

He added that it would really help if they could go through the trouble of getting banking information or a zapper code from the salon, so each person supports their own hairdresser, and if you don’t have one, support any one, or the one the guy who tagged you, supports.
