Two police officers and one man, all three accused of business robbery, are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape today.

The provincial spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says it is alleged that the two officers and the accomplice stormed into a local tuck shop in Kimberley and robbed the owner of an undisclosed amount of cash and 25 cartons of cigarettes over the weekend. He says with the assistance of the police and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members, the two police officers were arrested at their place of work and their accomplice was arrested  at his residence in Roodepan.

Ramatseba adds that an undisclosed amount of cash was found in possession of the accomplice and was confiscated. He further says it is alleged that one of the police officers was wearing his police uniform during the robbery. The Provincial Commissioner, Peter Shivuri, has strongly condemned the involvement of the two officers in the alleged business robbery. "The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape will do everything possible to ensure that rotten police officers are exposed and sent to jail where they belong," Shivuri said.
