Underutilisation of water trucks concerns NC DWS─── MARVIN NTSANE 12:44 Mon, 11 May 2020
The Head of the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in the Northern Cape, Kobus Streuders, says the cost of renting water trucks is very high and due to budgetary constraints, the department needs to reduce them to a minimum.
He says all municipalities are requested to relook and reassess their needs to see how each water truck can be utilised to its full capacity.
This as a total of 884 water tanks allocated to the province have been delivered by the department. Streuders says, however, out of this number only 347 water tanks are fully installed and 227 are temporary in use, awaiting full installation. He urges municipalities to accelerate the pace of installation of the tanks. He also says underutilisation of the water trucks is a continuing concern. Streuders cautioned that water trucks that are underutilised will be deployed to needier communities.
