NW records first #Covid19 death | News Article

North West has recorded its first Covid-19 death as the country continues to grapple with rising infections and fatalities.

South Africa has recorded 12 new deaths, bringing the death toll up to 206.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize visited the Eastern Cape on Monday to access the province’s response to the pandemic, where he revealed the latest stats.

“This one is a patient that had comorbidities, largely what we call ‘thromboembolic phenomena’,” says Mkhize.

“We lost that one.”

An additional 637 confirmed cases were also recorded - there are now 10,652 confirmed cases.

Some 4,357 of these have recovered.

“In the Eastern Cape 1356, Free State 135, in Gauteng 1971, KwaZulu-Natal 1372, Limpopo remain 54, Mpumalanga only 63, North West 50, the Northern Cape has 30, and the Western Cape had the highest increase and now has 5621,” said Mkhize.

“That is a matter of concern because it puts Western Cape at 52.8% of the numbers in the country.”

Mkhize added that President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit the Western Cape soon.
