#CoronavirusFS: Gauteng patient traced to FS | News Article

A patient from Gauteng, who tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus in Roodepoort, was recently traced back to Hennenman in the Free State.

Free State departmental spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, confirmed that the woman travelled from Gauteng to visit her mother in Phomolong, Hennenman.

He says after the Covid-19 tracing team managed to track her down, she and her mother were taken in by the team - which is now in the process of tracing her contacts.

The status of the mother is yet to be revealed. The province so far has 21 active cases after 107 recovered from a total of 134 patients, with 6 deaths reported.

Meanwhile, on Monday night the premier, Sisi Ntombela, announced on her Facebook page that 13 708 Covid-19 tests have been conducted in the province up to date.

She says 1 074 628 people have been screened while 3 042 of 3 051 contacts have successfully been traced and monitored.

”I must caution that even though we have not reported new deaths and a significant increase in the number of cases, we are still deeply concerned about the potential existence of silent transmission in our communities. We are working very hard to upscale testing and sustain our aggressive contact tracing capability,” Ntombela adds.

On Monday, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that a total number of 10 652 individuals have been infected by the virus in South Africa.

Mkhize announced that the death toll due to Covid-19 in the country has also increased to 206 while 4 357 patients have recovered.
