Former Free State Provincial Accountant-General, Anna Fourie, has died at the age of 62.

Fourie spent almost four decades at the Provincial Treasury before retiring in 2018. The provincial finance department in a statement confirmed they have learned with sadness of Fourie’s passing, after she served the department for 39 years.

The 62-year-old Fourie is said to have passed away after a short illness at her home in Bloemfontein on Monday.

Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, says Fourie took pride in her work and understood that service to the people was everyone's responsibility.

Fourie is further described as someone who was dedicated to serving others and encouraged unity at all times.

Free State Director-General, Kopung Ralikontsane, says Fourie was a dedicated individual who strived for perfection.

Having served the provincial government for almost 40 years, Fourie rose through the ranks and became the first Provincial Accountant-General (PAG) of the Free State Provincial Government in 2001.

"I have known Anna for many years and what struck me the most about her was her dedication to her job. She understood what it meant to be a public servant and she did her job with absolute diligence. Her work ethic rubbed off on those who were privileged enough to work with her," said Ralikontsane.
