NW intruder, stuck in window, arrested | News Article

A 39-year-old man, who was arrested after he got stuck in a window while entering a house in Alabama near Klerksdorp, appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court, North West police said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh said Lesego Tau appeared in court on Monday and his case was postponed to 15 May for bail application. He is facing a charge of housebreaking with the intent to commit an unknown crime.

"Tau was allegedly caught by the home owner after he got stuck while entering the house through a window in Alabama outside Klerksdorp. It is alleged that the home owner, who went to bed at about 10pm on Friday, was awakened by a strange noise and went to investigate.

"She allegedly found Tau, stuck in the window and screaming for help. The police were ultimately summoned and arrested the suspect," Colonel Myburgh said.

In an unrelated incident, Colonel Myburgh said a 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the rape of a six-year-old girl in Hebron.

"According to information available at this stage, the victim was sent by her mother to the local supermarket on 5 May."

He said the suspect allegedly waylaid her and raped her.

"After the ordeal the victim went home and reported the incident to her mother. Further investigations led the police to identification and apprehension of the suspect with assistance of members of the community," she said.

The man appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing a charge of rape.

His case was postponed to 21 May for a formal bail application.

Meanwhile, four men were arrested in Leeudoringstad outside Klerksdorp for housebreaking and theft, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm.

"The arrests came after the police followed-up on information received from the community about a suspicious vehicle driving around in Kgakala Section on Wednesday, 6 May.

"The vehicle was subsequently spotted and pulled over by the police. During the search, the police found properties stolen earlier on the same day at a farm," Colonel Myburgh said.

She said the men were also found in possession of a 9mm pistol and an investigation revealed that the pistol was stolen in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, during a business robbery in which one man was arrested while the others managed to flee from the scene.

She said Molawa Motsamai, 48, Vukani Mbongeni, 36,  Wiseman Moyo, 48, and Solly Lithibe, 35, appeared in the Wolmaransstad Magistrate's Court and their case was postponed to 15 May.
