Diesel theft suspect expected in Harrismith court─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:52 Wed, 13 May 2020
A 40-year-old suspect arrested in connection with stolen diesel worth approximately R480 000 in the Free State, is expected to appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court this morning.
The 40-year-old man was reportedly travelling from Verkykerskop to Harrismith when he was arrested by the police on Monday. The Hawks spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, says the truck carrying the fuel was found at the Harrismith Truck Stop after it had been towed by a breakdown truck.
She says when the police arrived, this 40-year-old driver of the truck could not provide valid proof as to where he obtained the fuel and where he was going. She says he was then arrested for possession of suspected stolen diesel. Steyn adds that the truck, tanker and the trailer containing fuel worth R480 000, were seized and investigations by the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit continues.
