#CoronavirusFS case allegedly reported by Bloem Water | News Article

The Free State's Bloem Water, which supplies many households with water across the province, including in Bloemfontein, is on Friday 15 May expected to confirm whether an employee tested positive for the coronavirus at one of its offices.

This, after a letter addressed to employees, which informed them about a case of Covid-19 at its offices in Bethulie near Trompsburg in the Kopanong Local Municipality, emerged on Thursday 14 May.

In this letter, the employees are informed that there is a case of Covid19 at its offices in that area and it further states that protocols have already been established and the matter will be dealt with in consultation with the Department of Health. The company, in this letter, also urges its employees not to panic but instead continue to adhere to social distancing by wearing a mask and sanitising at all times.

The report of a positive Covid-19 case at Bloem Water comes a few weeks after five employees at Clover Bloemfontein tested positive for the novel coronavirus recently.

Employees have also been told to obtain permission and have valid travel permits from the employer to be allowed to enter any official premise.

So far, the province has about 31 active cases after 108 people from a total of 145 confirmed cases recovered and 6 deaths were reported.

Premier Sisi Ntombela, on her official Facebook page, announced on Thursday night that the Health Department has increased the number of tests done to 16 532." Our screening tally is at 1 237 703, whilst 3 114 of 3 148 known contacts have been traced successfully," Ntombela adds.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize last night announced that a total number of 12 739 people have been confirmed positive for the virus while 5 676 have recovered and 238 deaths have been reported. This means that only 6 825 cases are active across the country at this stage.

We have managed to flatten the curve to some extent due to the lockdown and flattening the curve is an ongoing process. We must continue to battle this. To fight this outbreak we need everyone to co-operate and create conditions to reduce the spread of the virus and our main focus is we have lives to save, " Mkhize adds.
