#CoronavirusFS: Seven more people tested positive─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:59 Fri, 15 May 2020
The number of coronavirus cases in the Free State has increased with 7 in the last 24 hours, with 31 active cases in the province at this stage.
This as 108 people have recovered and 6 deaths have been recorded from the confirmed number of 145 cases which sat at 138 the previous day.
On Thursday night 15 May 2020, Premier Sisi Ntombela, on her official Facebook page, announced that the Health Department has increased the number of tests done to 16 532. Ntombela says the screening tally is more than 1.2 million whilst 3 114 of 3 148 known contacts have been successfully traced.
The province has more Covid-19 related deaths in Central South Africa, which includes the North West, which so far has 29 active cases after 28 recoveries, and 1 death from 58 reported Covid-19 cases.
Another province in Central South Africa, is the Northern Cape, which is the only province in this region that is yet to record a death from Covid-19. It also has the lowest number of active cases with 12, after 19 patients recovered from 31 reported cases with no deaths.
There are currently 72 active cases of #Covid19 in Central South Africa (FS - 31, NW - 29, and NC - 12).
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize last night announced that a total number of 12 739 people have been confirmed positive for the virus nationally while 5 676 have recovered and 238 deaths have been reported.
This means that only 6 825 cases are active across the country at this stage. "We have started building up our supply of PPEs and we are doing well. We have stock for 6-8 weeks and after that, we will order more. We are discussing the production of resources locally," he adds. Mkhize says only 10% of PPEs are manufactured locally and that needs to change. He adds that this must go up to 90%.
