In efforts to curb property related crimes in North West, Pule Mosimanyana - aged 39 - was arrested and subsequently appeared in the Itsoseng Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for possession of suspected stolen livestock.
He was remanded in custody until Monday, May 25, for a formal bail application.
Seven cattle were reported stolen from a field in Tshunyane village. It's alleged that Mosimanyana approached a member of the community to temporarily keep the livestock for him in exchange for money.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Aafje Botma, the accused was arrested after the person he had given the livestock to for safe-keeping notified the police.
The cattle, worth R62 000, was positively identified by the lawful owner.
The Provincial Police Commissioner for North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, commended the police and members of the community for their cooperation, which led to the success and the recovery of the livestock.
