The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Central South Africa have been updated by each of their respective Health Departments.

The Free State confirmed that it has 153 confirmed cases, with 108 recoveries and 7 deaths.

The Northern Cape announced a 71-year-old man has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing its total up to 35 with no recorded deaths thus far.

The North West has a total tally of 64 cases, with a single death and 28 recoveries.

Minister of Health, dr. Zweli Mkhize, reiterated in a statement that everyone should be reminded not to travel unless absolutely necessary, and to stay at home as much as possible.

"According to current estimations, without the implementation of the lockdown and other measures that have been put in place, at least 80 000 South Africans could have been infected with COVID-19 by now and our death toll could have been eight times higher. The lockdown was therefore absolutely necessary", Mkhize concluded.
