NC duo selling fake licence discs arrested─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:06 Thu, 21 May 2020
Two men arrested for selling fake licence discs will on Thursday 21 May appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape on charges of corruption.
Hawks provincial spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the two, aged between 47 and 58 years old, were busted on Tuesday during an intelligence-driven operation.
She says the arrests followed after officials in an undercover operation managed to purchase a fake licence disc from these suspects at a cost of R600.
Mnisi adds that during the arrest the officials recovered some of the money that was used in the transaction.
The operation included members of the Hawks, Serious Corruption Investigation, Crime Intelligence, and the Kimberley Cluster Detective Team.
"Information was received regarding suspects in Kimberley who were allegedly selling fake licence discs," she further adds.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two other suspects - aged 48 and 78-years-old - were arrested for possession of dagga by Kimberley Crime Prevention members on Monday 19 May, in Oliver Road.
Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says it is alleged that the two’s vehicle was spotted by police officials who were busy with crime prevention duties. He adds their vehicle was stopped and upon searching it, three bags were found on the back seat containing dagga with a street value of R45 000.
Ramatseba adds the suspects were arrested and detained, and will soon appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court while the investigation continues.
