Nzimande to finalise return of final year medical students─── MARVIN NTSANE 08:52 Thu, 21 May 2020
The controlled returning of final year medical students across South African universities will be finalised today.
This, as the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, will be addressing the media at 11:00 on Thursday morning.
Amongst other issues he will address, is the distribution of laptops and data to all students to enable remote learning during the lockdown. Nzimande said due to the high risk of coronavirus, no students will return to campus, except final year medical students who will be able to assist with health management campaigns of the department of health.
Amongst other issues Nzimande will address, is the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowances, Sector Education and Training Authority's stipends, and the establishment of private accommodation. Meanwhile, the science and innovation sector will also provide an update on research with regards to South Africa’s traditional medicine. This comes after it has made engagements with stakeholders in relation to indigenous knowledge systems and Covid-19.
