The Water and Sanitation Department says it has been working around the clock to deliver water tanks across the country to assist communities in need of water supply.

It confirms over 19 200 tanks are allocated throughout the country with the bulk set to be distributed to the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.

Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has announced that the department will fast-track the distribution of water tanks to communities, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic. It is confirmed that a total of 17 829 water tanks have been delivered to various parts of the country. Of the 2 633 tanks allocated for the Free State, the department confirms 1 807 have been delivered.

Communities in the troubled Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality have meanwhile once again raised concerns over the lack of water supply in many areas.

The Department has, however, vowed to ensure the delivery of water to all communities despite ongoing challenges.

In a statement the department says more water tanks will be delivered to communities.
