#CoronavirusNW: Health facility closes doors | News Article

Another medical facility has been shut down in Potchefstroom in North West after a 59-year-old nurse tested positive for Covid-19.

The nurse, who received her results on Saturday, forms part of at least six medical personnel in the province - including doctors and nurses - who also tested positive for the virus.

The Department of Health spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says the nurse is linked to the outpatient department of the Potchefstroom Hospital’s Eye Clinic.

He says the facility has been closed following decontamination on Sunday and it will remain so for the next two days.

So far, the province has 64 active cases after 29 patients recovered and one death was reported. There has been a total number of 94 reported cases in the province.

MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, recently announced that a 52-year-old and a 41-year-old, both nurses from Promosa in Potchefestoom ,were confirmed Covd-19 positive which led to the closing of the Promosa Clinic.

Lekgethwane further says the province has now seen an increase of 13 from previously reported cases meaning this is the highest daily increase of cases ever recorded in the province. The province has recorded 24 cases in the last seven days.

"Furthermore, the department has begun a process of tracing contacts of the nurse and the contacts include 67 patients, 18 staff members and one family member," he says.

Lekgethwane says 1 119 contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province were identified and 999 (89%) were successfully traced. Of these, 598 contacts have completed the 14 day monitoring period while only 10 contacts have tested positive.
