#CoronavirusNC: Interprovincial cases continue | News Article

The interprovincial spreading of the coronavirus still continues to be a contributor to the infection rate in the Northern Cape.

The Department of Health's spokesperson, Lebohang Majaha, says two of the five new recorded cases have a travel history outside the province. The increase in the number of Covid-19 cases means that the province has now 16 active cases after 28 people recovered and one death was reported from 45 cases. Majaha says the provincial department's Covid-19 tracing team is actively involved in identifying all contacts and testing is underway.

"One person from the Umsobomvu Local Municipality in the Pixley Ka Seme District has a travel history outside the province, two people reside in the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality in the Frances Baard District, one person is from the Kgatelopele local municipality in the ZF Mgcawu District, and one person from the Renosterberg Local Municipality in the Pixley Ka Seme District has a travel history outside the province," Mahaja explains.

He adds that in providing clarity on the number of people screened in the province, it must first be noted facility-based people screened have been collected at roadblocks, facility-based screening and door-to-door screening since the national lockdown.

"Increasingly some people will find they are screened more than once," he further adds.
