#CoronavirusNC: NICD reallocates two cases to Gauteng─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:38 Tue, 02 Jun 2020
The two unallocated cases of coronavirus in the Northern Cape have now been reallocated to Gauteng by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD).
The Provincial Department of Health spokesperson, Lebohang Majaha, says the two cases from Gauteng had been wrongly allocated to the province. The province earlier reported several cases of Covid-19 that were interprovincial from provinces such as the Eastern Cape, Free State and Western Cape. So far, the province officially has 50 active cases after 31 recoveries and 1 death recorded from the initial 82 cases.
"On Monday the Minister [of Health] announced 15 new positive cases of Covid-19 in the Northern Cape, which brings the total to 82 people who have tested positive," Majaha says. The Umsobomvu Local Municipality, which includes Colesburg, has recorded some of those new cases, as did the Renosterberg Local Municipality, which includes Philipstown and recorded a total of three new cases. There is another case reported in the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality, which includes Upington, and another new case of Covid-19 was recorded in the Gamagara Local Municipality, which includes Kathu.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Monday night announced that South Africa has recorded 34 357 cases of Covid-19 in total. Mkhize also announced that there are 705 deaths recorded in the country and 17291 recoveries.
