While the provincial breakdown of these positive cases indicates the Western Cape remains an epicentre, accounting for over 23 000 cases, followed by the Eastern Cape at 4 324 and Gauteng at 4 276, provinces in Central South Africa are also seeing an increase. 

The Free State has seen an increase of 14 positive cases in the last 24 hours, as the numbers jump from 285 to 299. The number of deaths stands at eight. While the Mangaung Metro remains the epicentre of the province, Health MEC Montsheng Tsiu has previously confirmed that the escalating number of cases in Xhariep and Fezile Dabi is a cause for concern. 

Bethulie in Xhariep has been flagged, with the bulk of cases in the district being from this town. The provincial department has since confirmed they will be keeping a close eye on these regions and urge residents to take all precautionary measures and adhere to lockdown regulations.
