#CoronavirusNW: NICD reallocates 74 cases to NW | News Article

A batch of coronavirus cases has been reallocated to the North West province from Gauteng by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD).

A total number of 74 cases which were previously allocated to Gauteng have now been rectified and reallocated to the province.

This comes as the rate of active cases in the province jumped from 141 on Monday to 211 on Tuesday, following the announcement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize. This after one person died and at least 59 people recovered from the virus across the province. Mkhize also announced that the overall number of positive cases in North West now stands at 271 which was 187 a day before.

Following the release of the infection rates, the province's Bojanala district, which includes Rustenburg, has the highest number of active cases in the province with 126, while Dr Kenneth Kaunda, which include Klerksdorp, has the second highest number of cases with at least 62 cases.

So far over two million people have been screened across all five districts in the province, and 2568 people have been referred for testing.

Health MEC Madoda Sambatha previously announced that cases of Covid-19 started to increase following the outbreak and the spreading of the virus in the mining sector which at the time had 75 confirmed cases. He said Matlosana at the time accounted for 18 cases while Bojanala accounted for at least 57 cases. This as the province announced five miners from the Eastern Cape and one from Gauteng, who travelled back to province's Impala Mine to resume their work, tested positive for Covid-19.
