Businesses warned against #Covid19 scams─── MARVIN NTSANE 14:44 Thu, 04 Jun 2020
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) urges businesses to be careful of scammers requesting quotations and services via emails.
The department’s spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, says the scammers are using fake emails with fake department logos, credentials and a link to lure unsuspecting businesses. He says the department urges businesses to not click on the link as it may download harmful spamware that can be used to steal money from a business account. Ratau urges businesses to check the validity of emails by always contacting the Department on 0800 200 200, or by visiting the department's nearest offices whose address can be found on the department’s website.
"Departmental emails start with a surname, initial followed by @dws.gov.za. DWS supply chain will never send anyone a link to download. Instead, it will send the actual document in word or pdf format.
Potential service providers should also receive an email with a full signature including Name, Surname, Department Name, Section and Contact Details at the bottom," he says.
