The North West Department of Health says over three million people, which is close to the four million population in the province, have been screened for the novel coronavirus.
The department says of those who were screened, a total number of 2 636 people across five districts in the province have been referred for Covid-19 testing. The province's active cases have gone up from 254 to 304, with 59 patients recovered, one death recorded from 364 Covid-19 reported cases.
On Thursday night, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that 50 more new infections in the province which took the rate of infection from 314 to 364. Meanwhile, the departmental spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgetheane, says the mass screening and contact tracing remains key to prevention of rapids infections.
Lekgethwane says that all districts are above 90 percent contact tracing and all suspected cases are referred for testing.
"We have now screened just over 3 million people (actual number 3,025,199). This is good progress considering the total population of North West now stands at just below 4 million (3,961,698) people, " He adds.
Meanwhile, Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Wednesday, night announced that 40 792 people have been confirmed positive for the virus. Mkhize also announced that a total number of 848 patients have now passed away from Covid-18 and 21 311 patients have thus far recovered which translates to a recovery rate of 52,24%.
