#Coronavirus: NW has most #Covid19 cases in CSA | News Article

The North West has surpassed its neighbouring province in Central South Africa (CSA), the Free State, with its number of Covid-19 cases.

The North West currently has more active cases than its neighbour, with Health Minister Zweli Mkhize suggesting the province might be the epicenter in Central SA with 304 active cases and an overall number of 364 confirmed cases. This as 59 patients across all five districts in the North West have recovered from the virus and one patient passed away. (According to the NICD ‘s stats released on 4 June 2020.)

Since the start of the pandemic, the Free State had more active cases and an overall caseload as opposed to the Northern Cape and North West. However, at the same time, the Free State had 185 active cases and the highest recovery rate of 128, but also the highest death rate, namely 9.

So far, the number of combined active cases from these three provinces stands at 255 after 507 recoveries, 11 deaths recorded, from 773 overall reported Covid-19 cases.

At least 6,249,227 people have been screened across three provinces and 42,758 people suspected of contracting the virus have been tested in Central SA so far.

Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, on Thursday night announced that 1 984 303 people have been screened, 29 907 tested, while 4 189 of the 4 273 known contacts successfully traced. The North West Department of Health says about 3,025,199 have been screened and 2 636 have been referred to tests for Covid-19.
