#CoronavirusNW: 55 new cases recorded─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:15 Mon, 08 Jun 2020
The North West's total number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases has now surpassed the 500-mark.
On Sunday night, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that the total number of confirmed cases in the province now stands at 523.
On Saturday the MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, warned that areas where the mining sector is based - including Rustenburg and Matlosana - were increasingly becoming a great cause for concern.
This follows after Sibanye Stillwater and Harmony Gold mines recorded over 100 positive cases in just three days after mineworkers from hotspot provinces, such as the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng, returned to work.
The province so far has 449 active cases of Covid-19 after 73 patients recovered from the virus, and one death was recorded from the 523 reported cases.
A total of four mines in the province account for over 266 cases in total.
