Deputy Minister of Education Dr Reginah Mhaule, accompanied by the Northern Cape MEC for Education, Mac Jack, visited grade 12 learners at Pampierstad High School earlier this morning in an attempted smooth transition to the reopening of schools.

During this transition it is important that learners practise safe health protocols so that the academic calendar continues without any hiccups. Deputy Minister Mhaule said in a statement, issued by the Department of Education in the Northern Cape, that the health and safety of learners and teachers is of paramount importance to the department. She added that in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, schools have to adapt to the new normal.

Mhaule told the students not to panic after losing two months of face-to-face interaction with teachers and that learners should just demonstrate their hard work through these difficult times. She added that the final exam papers are ready and have been stored in a safe place. They should not let Covid-19 stand in their way of having bright futures.

The classroom which Deputy Minister Mhaule and MEC Mac Jack addressed, demonstrated safety protocols of safe distancing and the use of PPE's. Nhaule ensured that learners will be able to use hand sanitisers and be able to wash their hands at any given time.

Mhaule concluded that "learners' lives remain number one".
