FS residents call for hospital closure | News Article

Residents of Qwaqwa in the Free State are calling for the closure of Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital as they believe that more people will be infected, as the number of positive Covid-19 cases keep increasing.

This, after two more personnel from the hospital tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of positive personnel working at the hospital to eight. They are pleading with the hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Balekile Mzangwa, to close it's doors to keep the disease from spreading in the community.

However, speaking to OFM News, Health Department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says residents must not be alarmed as the staff are in quarantine to curb the spread of the virus. He says the department is making progress with tracing all movement by the infected personnel.

He added that one staff memeber from the Elizabeth Ross hospital tested positive after meeting a colleague from Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital - but both Hospitals were decontaminated over the weekend

Mvambi saud that the province is fighting hard to curb the spread of Covid-19, and he reminds residents to always wash their hands, wear face masks and keep to safe social distancing.
