#CoronavirusSA: Vaal school still needs PPE─── 06:39 Tue, 09 Jun 2020
As many schools reopened on Monday, Residensia Secondary School in Sebokeng near Vereeniging in the Vaal Triangle was unable to resume with classes due to a lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The school has 225 grade 12 learners, while only 173 PPEs were delivered to the school.
Several attempts to get comment from the Gauteng Department of Education were unsuccessful, however, a staff member at the school - who spoke on condition of anonymity - tells OFM News that they communicated with their learners through the school's social media platforms, informing learners to not come to school.
Last week, OFM News reported on Mahareng Secondary School in Sharpeville, which was vandalised. Criminals made off with school equipment, including computers and electrical cables.
Toilet facilities were also damaged by the criminals.
This school did not open on Monday, despite the Gauteng Department of Education last week vowing to provide the school with an industrial generator and to repair the toilets.
