Two schools in FS did not reopen─── MARVIN NTSANE 14:57 Tue, 09 Jun 2020
The Free State MEC of Education, Tate Makgoe, says two schools in the province did not reopen its doors for the phased-in return of grade 7's and 12 on Monday.
He, however, says all other schools reopened. He said this during a media briefing which was hosted at the Tsosoletso Secondary School in Mangaung, Bloemfontein, on Tuesday. In attendance was the MEC of Social Development, Mamiki Qabathe, MEC of Health, Montsheng Tsiu, and the Head of the Education Department, Tshoarelo Malakoane.
Makgoe says one school in Bloemfontein, the Bochabela Primary School, did not reopen on Monday after one of the administration clerks in this school tested positive for COVID-19 last week. He says the learners were sent back home. He further says all the teachers were tested and cleared. He also states that fumigation and disinfection have been done and the school is ready. Makgoe says another school that did not reopen in the Fezile Dabi District in Kroonstad. He says this is because of municipal construction which affected the school. He says both of these schools will reopen on Wednesday.
He added that the epicentre in the province, which is the Xhariep District, was a concern. Everything, however, went according to plan. He says the water challenges in Vredefort and Parys's were also a concern but the Department of Water and Sanitation delivered water to these two areas. "We are prepared for the challenges and ready for the battle," Makgoe concluded.
