#SchoolsReopening: NW premier confident about newly built schools | News Article

With hundreds of Grade 12 and 7 pupils heading back to different schools in the North West amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic, premier Job Mokgoro has expressed his confidence in pupils from the newly built schools in the province.

Mokgoro and MEC for Education, Wendy Matsemela, handed over two completed schools in the Taung and Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipalities on Tuesday. This after 65 000 grade 7 and 37 000 grade 12 pupils on Monday returned to school for the first time since it shut down in March due to the spread of Covid-19.

While handing over these schools, Mokgoro says pupils are bound to produce great results due to their improved learning environment. He further says that these are state of the art schools and he hopes communities will take care of and avoid vandalism, which recently saw 71 schools experiencing burglaries and theft.

Of the 61 schools that have been repaired, the repairs at 58 schools cost the department more than R50 000 each.

Schools that were handed over include the Mokgareng Secondary School in Taung and Maiketso Primary School in Morokweng. They consist of classrooms, science laboratories, computer rooms, multipurpose classrooms, the school library, administration office, nutrition centre, dining hall and many other facilities. “A conducive learning environment is good for all learners because they are able to comprehend faster, unlike in schools with bad infrastructure. With these new schools we’re certain that we will be able to comply with all the Covid-19 regulations, as stated," Mokgoro adds.
