The department's spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says the learner is currently with his family in quarantine.

He says the other 19 learners who are hostel mates with him have also been quarantined.

Ndaba further adds that the learners were not sharing rooms. “The school has 243 learners and 3 hostels at the school with 20 learners each, as per the social distance regulations."

He says the school has a doctor and a nurse. The departments of health and education are working together with the school to assist with all the requirements of Covid-19.

The department has done everything in their power to ensure all Covid-19 protocols are followed at the school. Ndaba congratulated the school for how they have handled the matter.

The school's spokesperson, Marzaan Venter, confirms that the Department of Education is currently meeting with management at the school.

The learner was continuously screened since he arrived at the hostel on Sunday, not showing any symptoms. He woke up with a headache and a bad cough on Tuesday morning. He was immediately isolated and tested.
