The Grey College Secondary School in Bloemfontein confirms that 19 learners and some teachers have been taken for quarantine at a designated Covid-19 quarantine area in the Free State.
Spokesperson of the school, Marzaan Venter, confirmed these measures were taken after an 18-year-old Grade 12 learner at the school tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday morning. She says that the school is currently not placed under quarantine, and the situation is calm and the classes continue as normal.
Venter further says the hostel and the areas he was in contact with will undergo decontamination.
The Department of Education spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, told OFM News the boy is from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. He added that the learner was screened when he arrived on Sunday, and all Covid-19 protocols were followed.
However, on Tuesday morning the learner had a headache and a bad cough, and was subsequently tested.
