A quarantine facility in Nababeep in the Northern Cape is accused of not complying with basic health and safety requirements.

A quarantine facility in Nababeep in the Northern Cape is accused of not complying with basic health and safety requirements.

The allegation is made by a group of South Africans repatriated from Namibia.

Some of them were allowed to be quarantined at a camping ground where people are allowed to come and go.

They were asked to sign indemnity forms prohibiting them from sharing photographs of the facility, so their identities are being withheld.

One of the women said safety was a big issue as bedroom doors couldn't lock.

"We were 11 people sharing bathrooms," she said.

The woman alleges that not all the nurses wore masks, gloves or protective clothing.

She was then moved to a caravan park where she's paid more than R8,000 for her family’s quarantine stay.

They are also now responsible for buying their own food in town.

The national quarantine guidelines state those in quarantine should be screened for symptoms at least twice a day.

On Tuesday, eNCA requested comment from the Northern Cape’s Health MEC Galerekwe Mase Manopole, but her spokesperson says she is not available and might respond later.
