#SchoolsReopening: NW school closes after #Covid19 case | News Article

With hundreds of schools reopening for thousands of pupils after the lockdown in March, a school in Manzil Park near Klerksdorp in the North West has been forced to close following a reported case of coronavirus.

On Sunday afternoon, Manzil Park Primary School released a statement about the school’s closure after one of their staff members tested positive for the virus.

The school principal, in a statement, says the foundation phase educator tested positive and she is at home to self-quarantine and teachers who were possible contacts will be tested. The Departments of Education and Health are expected to visit the school on Monday to charter a way forward. The school is amongst many institutions in Klerksdorp within the Matlosana area which have been forced to close their doors due to Covid-19. So far the province has 940 active cases after 152 patients recovered from the virus, with 5 deaths recorded from 1097 reported cases.

"At the school we are doing everything possible to keep this virus away. I want to reassure parents that the educator had no contact with any learner and is of no threat to them," the principal adds.

The school has further urged parents and pupils to continue to abide by safety regulations while efforts to fight the pandemic continues.

“This is a very stressful time for all of us and I ask parents to be calm. We can only pray for the safety of our leaders, educators, parents, and loved ones," the principal further adds.

OFM News previously reported that another school was forced to shut down after its 56-year-old principal tested positive for the novel coronavirus recently.
