The Justice Department's regional spokesperson, Joseph Makutle, told OFM News that the court will be closed on Thursday and Friday for decontamination. He also said work to trace suspected contacts linked to the said employee had already commenced. Makutle said as a result of the unplanned two-day closure of the court, most criminal, civil and family law matters on the roll were postponed to Monday.

The court is in Klerksdorp in Matlosana, which is one of the two municipalities in the province which are regarded as Covid-19 epicenters. The area has, alongside Rustenburg, been flagged as an epicenter after Harmony Gold miners tested positive in large numbers within a period of only three days. 

So far the province has 940 active cases after 152 patients recovered from the virus, with 5 deaths recorded from 1097 reported cases. 

Meanwhile, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Sunday night announced that 70 038, people have been confirmed positive for the virus. Mkhize also announced that a  total number of 1480 patients have now passed away from Covid-19 and 38 531 patients have thus far recovered.

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) also last night revealed that a total of 34 071 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The institute further adds that there are 4 302 new cases of the virus across the country and 57 new Covid-19 deaths.
