The coronavirus situation in North West recently took a dramatic turn when cases soared to over 1000 infections. This has since been blamed on miners who returned from hot spot provinces like the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Gauteng to work in mining companies.
MEC Sambatha recently announced that the department is working with mining houses and the province now has a Mining Task Team to deal with compliance issues by the mines and curb the coronavirus spread. The active cases in the province have also surged past the 1000-mark as more new cases continue to emerge across the province.
According to the latest statistics by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, the province has 1 426 active cases after 175 patients recovered from the virus, and 5 deaths were recorded from 1 606 reported cases.
