A 26-year-old man is due in court on Monday after the brutal murder of his 27-year-old partner in the Northern Cape almost two weeks ago.
The suspect will today appear in the Hartswater Magistrate’s Court to face a charge of murder after he bludgeoned the woman to death with a panga on the morning of Sunday 14 June 2020. He was arrested by the police in Asgat informal settlement where he killed the woman in her shanty in that area, with no clear motive.
The police earlier indicated that they were investigating the matter. Just a week and a few days later, after the 27-year-old’s brutal murder, two women including a blind 74-year-old woman in that province also fell victim to the heinous crime.
Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, earlier reported that a 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the rape of a 74-year-old blind woman in Olifantshoek after the rape incident took place in Siyathemba.
“The incident was reportedly committed on 16 June 2020 at the victim's home in Siyathemba. It is alleged that, during a heated argument with the girlfriend, the girlfriend was allegedly assaulted, as well as the sister. The two sisters fled and the suspect raped their grandmother,” he says.
Ramatseba also reported that another suspect aged 48-year-old was arrested by the police in Noupoort near Colesberg for the alleged murder of his wife. “The victim was allegedly killed on 14 June 2020 after suffering head injuries. The motive has not been established as yet, police investigations continue,” he added.
