NC cashier summoned for R500k fraud, theft─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:30 Tue, 23 Jun 2020
A 37-year-old cashier, who is said to have worked at a well-known Supermarket in Schmidtsdrift in the Northern Cape, has been slapped with a summons by the Hawks to appear in court for fraud and theft.
This summons was issued yesterday following the investigation by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in the province. The provincial Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the suspect allegedly defrauded the store with an amount of R500 000 between March and June 2019. The cashier is alleged to have unlawfully and falsely returned cancelled goods on various occasions with intentions to financially benefit from the process. Mnisi adds that in this process all the returns were authorised by the suspect's supervisor under the impression that they were due whereas there was no customer(s) who returned those goods.
Mnisi says the suspect will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on July 17.
