#CoronavirusNW: Confirmed cases re-allocated to other provinces | News Article

Seven confirmed coronavirus cases from the North West have been re-allocated to the Gauteng and Limpopo provinces respectively.

The Department of Health Spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says five has been re-allocated to Gauteng, which is one of three Covid-19 epicentres in the country. He also says the other two cases were re-allocated to Limpopo. This comes amidst the surge in the rate of Covid-19 infections in the province, with Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announcing 2,322 active cases after 291 patients recovered from the virus and 5 deaths were recorded from the 2,618 reported cases.

Earlier in June, a batch of coronavirus cases was re-allocated to the North West from Gauteng by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD). A total number of 74 cases, which were previously allocated to Gauteng, were then rectified and re-allocated to the province.

The department says since the last update of 291 recoveries announced by Mkhize, 114 more patients have recovered which are expected to reflect in the statistics soon. This means that 405 patients in the province have now recovered from this virus. “The increase in new infections demand that we collectively adhere to lockdown regulations to slowdown infection. The virus doesn’t move  - people move it,” the department adds.

OFM News previously reported that the surge in the rate of Covid-19 infections continues to affect more public as well as private institutions in the province. This as more of them continue to suffer the effects of the virus, which at most forces them to shut down for decontamination and contact tracing, amongst others.

Institutions that have been affected by the virus, include local Municipal offices, hospitals and schools in the province. Mines such as Harmony Gold in Klerksdorp and Sibanye Still Water Mines in Rustenburg also contributed immensely to the growing numbers of Covid-19 in North West.
