#CoronavirusFS: Bfn police station closed yet again─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 08:33 Sat, 27 Jun 2020
The Mangaung Police station located in the Bloemfontein township of Phahameng has been closed yet again in less than month due to the coronavirus (Covid-19).
Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, confirms another police officer at the station has tested positive for Covid-19. According to Mbambo the police station will undergo decontamination and deep cleaning for the second time this month. The services thereof will operate from the Lesley Monnanyane Hall which is located just behind the Home Affairs building in Rocklands township on a temporary basis.
“The community is advised to call 10111 for all emergencies and complaints which needs to be attended by the Mangaung Cluster Operational Command Centre members. The telephone lines at Mangaung police station community service centre will not be accessible for the duration of closure”. She says the police management in the province apologises for the inconvenience residents will be caused by this closure.
On 3 June, OFM News reported the Mangaung police station had shut down amidst mounting concerns over the accuracy of test results in the Free State, after the Batho police station employee who reportedly tested positive for the virus informed Netwerk24 that her test results were accidentally swapped with those of a Dewetsdorp resident - a mishap.
The 50-year-old clerk told the media outlet that she was due for an operation when she was tested for the virus. Police spokesperson Naidoo declined to confirm whether or not the Batho police station was closed off based on incorrect results, saying “I cannot confirm if a member has tested positive or negative. That is the prerogative of the member to do so”.
According to Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, the Free State has 649 active cases and nine deaths.
