Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says it is alleged that the 50-year-old Willem du Toit and his 82-year-old mother were attacked last night by three unknown men.

Mbambo says Du Toit had gone outside after the house's electricity was disconnected. That is when he was attacked by the intruders.

She says the suspects took Du Toit inside the house where they assaulted him and his mother before tying their hands together and demanding a key to the safe.

Mbambo adds that the suspect then fled the scene on foot with a revolver and two cell phones. She appealed to anyone who might have information that could lead to the guilty party's arrests to contact the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, both victims have been referred to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Investigations continue.
