NC health workers arrested─── MARVIN NTSANE 14:43 Mon, 29 Jun 2020
A general worker and five guards at the Northern Cape Department of Health are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape on charges of theft today.
The police spokesperson, Omphile Masegela, says they were all arrested yesterday after the police acted on information that cleaning material and other items were missing in the department's offices in Upington.
He says it was alleged that the missing items were shared among these suspects and some was kept at one of their residences. Masegela says upon a search at their residences the police recovered the items, including protective and cleaning materials, a television set and air conditioner, belonging to department. He says all the property is estimated at a value of R100 000.
The Acting District Commissioner of ZF Mgcawu, Sampie Koopman, says actions of this nature by those who are supposed to protect the property of the state will be dealt with decisively.
