#CoronavirusNW: Highest daily #Covid19 recoveries recorded | News Article

The North West Health Department has recorded the most coronavirus recoveries in a single day despite a surge in the rate of Covid-19 infections in the province.

On Tuesday, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that 266 Covid-19 patients have recovered, which then translated to a total of 651 patients who have now recovered in the province. On Monday only 385 patients had recovered as shown by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD).

The provincial Department of Health has further released the updated figures of those who have recovered, which is expected to be captured later on during the release of Covid-19 statistics by Mkhize on Wednesday. The department says their numbers have now increased with another 151 recoveries, which further translates to 802 of patients who have recovered across the province, compared to the 651 currently reflected by the NICD's stats.

The province so far has a cumulative number of 4187 cases and has thus far recorded 7 deaths.

On Tuesday, OFM News reported that the coronavirus death toll in the province increased to 7 after 2 more people passed away. This as previously 5 Covid-19 patients in the province were confirmed to have lost their lives due to the virus.

The Department of Health spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, confirmed that the two new deaths were recorded in the Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp, which is one of the epicentres for the virus in the province. The infection rate took a dramatic turn when miners returned from hot spots like the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Gauteng to work in mining companies across the province, and tested positive.
