Invention shows if drinking water is safe─── MARVIN NTSANE 18:05 Wed, 01 Jul 2020
A new water testing technology to assist municipalities by monitoring the quality of water has been launched in the Free State.
The Department of Water and Sanitation's provincial Deputy Director for Water Services Regulation sub directorate, Gerhard Janse van Noordwyk, says this innovation is the opposite of the old method of water testing.
He says the Blue Drop trailer has a water testing laboratory which can analyse raw water through various processes and offer accurate results. According to Janse van Noordwyk, the trailer will be testing the quality of water on the spot.
He says municipalities who are struggling with water quality have been identified and will be assisted using the trailer.
He says that the trailer will speed up the process and cover most municipalities in a short period of time.
Jansen van Noordwyk also states that it will determine if the water process controllers at water treatment plants are performing their duties effectively.
He describes the Blue Drop trailer as "One of its kind, not only in South Africa but in the world, with many of the parts that were specially designed and customized in America by CTE Water Tech that was contracted by the Department."
The provincial head of operations in the department, Tsiliso Nili, says "It uses cutting edge technology as a water testing laboratory which was initiated in 2010 by the department as a research method to remotely monitor Water Treatment Works."
