The provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says according to EMS they both had foam around their mouths and there were no signs of external injury.

The police suspect that the deceased are homeless people as they were found under a tree at what seems to be a sleeping place for homeless people. Makhele says the police are still trying to locate their families. Both the deceased are aged between 30 and 35.

He says “the Park Road police were alerted by the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) Staff-Sergeant after the discovery. The police responded swiftly and on arrival, found the bodies at the corner of Furstenberg and Mellville Streets in Brandwag. The bodies of the two males were lying a stone's throw apart”.

An inquest has been opened and police are investigating the cause of death.
