#CoronavirusNW: Cases reallocated to FS, NC | News Article

The Free State and Northern Cape have had a batch of unallocated positive coronavirus cases from North West passed to them.

The Department of Health Spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, confirms that 24 cases were reallocated to at least five provinces across the country. Of these, he says the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) allocated 8 Covid-19 cases to Gauteng, 7 to Limpopo, 3 to Free State, Eastern Cape 3, Northern Cape 2, and Mpumalanga 1.

The reallocation of these cases comes as North West battles to deal with the fast spread of the virus, with cumulative cases having soared to 6,842 and killing over 36 people.

OFM News previously reported that MEC Gordon Kegakilwe passed away following cardiac arrests due to Covid-19 complications, with premier Job Mokgoro and MEC Saliva Molapisi also testing positive.

Lekgethwane also announced that the province has recorded 448 new Covid-19 cases. "Eight cases were reallocated from Northern Cape to North West," he adds.

The North West has about 5 471 active cases after 1 335 patients recovered from the virus, and 36 deaths were recorded from the total 6 842 reported cases.
