#NCTendergate: Father, daughter also arrested | News Article

The number of suspected culprits in the Northern Cape Department of Health's alleged R74 million tender fraud has now increased to ten with an additional two suspects.

The 51-year-old former Chief Executive Officer from the Department of Health, Gordon Moncho, and his daughter, the28-year-old Naledi Moncho, already appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after their arrest.

The Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandoza Mnisi, says the two now join the eight other suspects and they all face charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering. She says these suspects were arrested after reports of irregularities surfaced in the awarding of the tenders and the investigations revealed that proper procedures were not followed in the awarding of various tenders to service providers. These other eight suspects, whose ages range between 36 and 72, appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Monday and they were all granted bail of between R5 000 and R10 000.

These suspects allegedly manipulated a R74 million building renovation tender at various Northern Cape towns between 2013 and 2014.

"The Monchos join eight other suspects - Melisa Joys Barnes (36), Godfrey Boitumelo Moncho (51), Graham Whitten (64), Eugene Magalty (46), Derrick Mcdillon (61), Carlo Whitten (40), Beryl Mcdillon (60) and Mervin Ruiters (72), who were arrested on Monday by the Kimberley Serious Corruption Investigation Unit or Hawks.

The provincial department allegedly suffered a R74 million prejudice in a contract valued at R494 million.

"Godfrey Moncho was granted R10 000 bail whilst Naledi Moncho is out on R5 000 bail. The case has been postponed to 5 August 2020," Mnisi adds.
