Have your coat close-by─── MARVIN NTSANE 08:52 Thu, 09 Jul 2020
Light snow fall is expected in some parts of Central South Africa this weekend, so it is advisable to have your coat close-by.
Snow is expected on the higher areas in the southern parts of the Northern Cape, the Southern Free State as well as Lesotho on Saturday. The South African Weather Services spokesperson, Michael Nethavhani, says the temperatures are expected to drop below minus five. He says the Free State, North West and the Northern Cape are currently experiencing strong winds.
He says these windy conditions pose a high danger of runaway fires in the Northern Cape. He also says the maximum temperatures are standing between 18 to 21 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This is expected to drop to between 10 to 12 degrees Celsius over the weekend, with minimum temperatures of - 5 to -2 degrees Celsius.
Nethavhani further says the cold front will probably arrive on Thursday evening. He concludes by saying that the temperatures will return to normal winter temperatures next week.
