According to Eskom spokesperson, Stefanie Jansen Van Rensburg, 15% of those who qualify in the Free State are not collecting their Free Basic Electricity (FBE).

This initiative is aimed to make the lives of the households identified by municipalities, better. Residents are advised to contact their respective municipalities to find out if they qualify for the benefit.

The Acting General Manager of Eskom in the Free State, Agnes Mlambo says that it is sad to see many households not using the aid that can have a positive impact on their lives.

‘’Through raising awareness on this benefit, we wish to increase the level of collection and thereby relieve some of the strain experienced by low-income households,’’ Mlambo added.

To claim the benefit customers should visit their nearest electricity sales vendor. Alternatively, USSD codes *130*869# or *130*269# are available to already configured customers to claim the befit via a cellphone at charge to the customer.
