#CoronavirusNW: Third MEC tests positive | News Article

Another MEC in the North West has tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The ANC in the province confirmed that MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, Virginia Tlhapi, tested positive for Covid-19.

Tlhapi is the third MEC and the fourth member of the Executive Council (Exco) in the province to test positive after the late MEC, Gordon Kegakilwe, Saliva Molapisi and Premier, Job Mokgoro, all tested positive for the virus.

ANC provincial spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, says Tlhapi along with Doctor Batsi - the Mayor of Mamusa Local Municipality, which include Schweizer-Reneke - were confirmed positive for Covid-19.

OFM News previously reported the Health MEC along with other five MECs believed to have been Covid-19 contacts of Premier Mokgoro all tested negative.

"We wish them strength in their continued fight against this v ious virus and these comrades have put their own lives at risk in their relentless fight against Covid-19. We are fully conscious of their commitment to the cause of fundamentally altering the lives of our people, it is this very commitment that will inspire their resolve to conquer against this pandemic," Morolong adds.

He says people must demonstrate their own commitment to the fight against the pandemic by adhering to all Covid-19 regulations and measures without fail.

"To comply with these measures, our people must continue to wash their hands regularly, sanitize, maintain social distance and wear masks," he further adds.
